Pick of the Week: Get Alive ‘N’ Kicking
Find out what’s happening on Rife Guide this week, including a healthy lifestyle programme from Alive ‘N’ Kicking.
It’s January, the time for a positive attitude and a positive change. The New Year is a welcomed opportunity to throw away any unhealthy lifestyle habits and to try and start afresh.
Don’t worry if this is what you were preaching on January 1st, but haven’t quite managed to get round to it yet. Who can blame you for struggling to emerge from the warmth of your duvet as soon as the temperature plummets? It’s not fun or easy to trade in your Lindt chocolate truffles for a baton of carrot.
But, now there’s an easy way to lose weight, eat healthier and get fit. Alive ‘N’ Kicking’s Healthy Lifestyle Programmes supports young people who struggle with their weight, to be happier and healthier. You will learn about a range of healthy eating topics in a way that’s easy to understand and easy to follow. Learn about food groups, food labels and portion sizes. Test out your skills by doing a supermarket shop and rustling up some tasty snacks.

There will be the opportunity to attend a weekly physical activity session alongside the programme. This is a space to feel comfortable and confident in, and everything is taken at your own pace. Ease yourself into a healthier you with this 10-week programme.
It is entirely free of cost and there are two different programmes to take part in. Both start on Monday 18th January and both are for young people aged 12 to 16. One is at Horfield Leisure Centre from 16.45 to 18.15. The other is at Merchants Academy Sports Centre from 17.00 to 18.30.
You can go to the sessions on your own, but it’s best if you can go with a parent/carer/older sibling because everyone can benefit from a healthier lifestyle. Full details can be found here, on Rife Guide. Check out Rife Magazine for a Gymuary Playlist to brighten up your January workouts.
