Hello! Rife Magazine ceased publishing new work in July 2022.

We've kept the magazine online as an archive and hope you'll still continue to enjoy all of its contributions from the last 8 years.

Pick of the Week: Roald Dahl on Film

fantasticmrfox

Find out what’s happening on Rife Guide this week, including a summer celebration of Roald Dahl’s books brought to life on the big screen.

“Marvellous things will happen; things even you never dreamt of…” – James and the Giant Peach

2016 marks 100 years since the birth of the world’s number one storyteller – Roald Dahl. A man of many talents, he was a spy, a fighter-pilot, a chocolate historian, a medical inventor, and the author who wrote some of our most treasured childhood tales.

Get the summer off to a scrumdiddlyumptious start with Watershed’s splendiferous season of Roald Dahl’s stories on the big screen in this series of screenings. Come along and rediscover your childhood in this series for all ages.

Watershed will be screening eight magnificent movies over the summer in the run up to what would be Dahl’s 100th birthday in September. Look out for Dahl’s creepy crawly classic James and the Giant Peach, the all-time classic Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, the magical story of Matilda, the dark and witty retelling The Witches, Steven Speilbergs’ brand new release The BFG, Wes Anderson’s quirky Fantastic Mr Fox, the creepy creature comedy horror Gremlins and last but not least, the fun filled Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

Away from the cinema screens there will be a load of wonderful things for small people to get up to. If you know anyone aged 12 and under then take them to the Book Den in the Café/Bar of Watershed, a cosy relaxed reading space where there will be a variety of brain-bizzling (and totally free) activities featuring chocolate illustration, finger puppets, costume making, crafting, reading and more.

Film tickets at Watershed are always £4.50 for anyone aged 24 and under, and day, any time. All activities are completely free.

What are you up to this summer? Let us know if you’re heading over to see Roald Dahl on Film, or anything else you’re up to on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
