Hello! Rife Magazine ceased publishing new work in July 2022.

We've kept the magazine online as an archive and hope you'll still continue to enjoy all of its contributions from the last 8 years.

The Rife Team

Rife wants your poetry

We’re commissioning young Black creatives’ poetry. Here’s how to send in your ideas

At Rife, we want to elevate and nurture work from Black creatives by highlighting, supporting and celebrating their work. The next part of our continuing pledge to support Black talent is this series of poetry commissions for young Black creatives.

If you are a Bristol-based Black poet who is 30 years old or under, we want to showcase a poem that you’ve created inspired by the theme:

An invitation to change the narrative.

You can use this theme in any way you like in your poem. In return for your work, you will receive £150 per commission, mentoring, peer networking, and editorial support from poetry editor Malaika Kegode with Rife alumni Aisha Sanyang-Meek and Asmaa Jama.

You can send in ideas for a brand new poem or send in a poem you’ve already completed but hasn’t been featured elsewhere.

To write to us about a new idea please include a rough outline of what you intend to write and why you’re interested in exploring this theme.

If you are chosen to produce one of the three commissions, you’ll create a poem that will appear on Rife’s website in writing and in a recording, if you’d like.

Send your ideas and/or examples of your work to editor@watershed.co.uk by 11th December. We will reply to every submission.
