"In Jackie Brown, Tarrantino and Elmore Leonard writ large a heroine who was smart, flawed, layered, and resilient. Pam Grier owned the character, story, the screen and the audience and it is a cinematic travesty that the Oscar was denied her.”

- Sharon Clark, playwright

A pretty faithful adaptation of Elmore Leonard's Rum Punch, Quentin Tarantino's postmodern classic makes this re-energised crime thriller a homage to, and an updating of, 1970s blaxploitation fiction and film.

At its centre is blaxploitation Queen Pam Grier, playing an air hostess pressured into an entrapment scam after being arrested for cash smuggling, who uses her feminine wiles to outwit both the police and her criminal cohorts. Tarantino draws huge suspense from a superb cast that includes Samuel L. Jackson and Chris Tucker and his familiar trademarks are all there (film references, playful language, an awesome soundtrack of funk classics...) but its beating heart is Grier, who is so good she makes you wonder where she had been all that time.
