In a first for Cinema Rediscovered, join us for a special free outdoor screening of the sci-fi cult classic Flash Gordon in Museum Square to celebrate Bristol's new status as UNESCO City of Film.
Ming the Merciless, the evil emperor of the planet Mungo, threatens to destroy the Earth just for fun. Time is running out - and it's up to Flash Gordon to stop him! Featuring a brilliant score by Queen, dazzling costumes and set, and Brian Blessed with wings, this fabulously fun adventure from Bristol-born director Mike Hodges (who is here to introduce it on the night) is a must to enjoy with the biggest audience possible!
Come and enjoy the film on Bristol’s historic harbourside: we’ll be setting up a cinema screen and some seating on Museum Square, Museum Street, BS1 4RN (just outside the M Shed Café and near the Matthew and Wapping Wharf).
Arrive early to enjoy a selection of pre-show short films and get comfortable. Limited seating will be available - feel free to bring blankets and cushions. Refreshments can be purchased from any of the independent food and drink outlets at Wapping Wharf and Museum Square. Remember this screening will take place in the open air so please dress for the weather!
There’s no booking required, just arrive as early as possible to take your seat or select your viewing spot.
The evening will look like this:
20:15 - short films begin
20:45 - introductions from broadcaster Samira Ahmed and director Mike Hodges, Flash Gordon begins
22:46 - film ends
Access Museum Square is wheelchair accessible and there are five disabled car park spaces at The Grove (BS1 4RB), three at Brunel’s Buttery, and four at Wapping Wharf (BS1 4RH).
