Four middle-aged men head to the French countryside and embark upon the task of eating themselves to death. Their feast is pure gluttony, but it's decadently drizzled in perversity so as to adequately satirise consumerism and the moral and ethical failures of the bourgeoisie.
Playing against type, the film boasts a cast of French and Italian dreamboats of its day; Marcello Mastroianni, Ugo Tognazzi, Michel Piccoli and Philippe Noiret as heathens with voracious appetites in this disgusting buffet on social values and the self-righteousness of amoral dignity. Feast your eyes on this seminal tale of greed, hedonism and excess, just don't get tempted to take a bite!
