A woman is plagued by paranoia after she hits something – or someone – with her car in Lucrecia Martel’s acclaimed psychological thriller. Initially believing she has hit her dog, she begins to break down when she starts to fear she may have killed a child. Disturbing and deeply mysterious, it's a masterful exploration that deals uniquely with themes of repressed guilt and denial.
Our Cinema Producer Thea Berry tells us why she's picked The Headless Woman:
"Lucrecia Martel is one of the most beguiling and thought provoking filmmakers working today. I discovered her work when we screened a selection of her short films back in 2018. What is so wonderful about Martel’s filmmaking, is that she lets the audience make up their own mind about what they saw and what they know. The truth about the characters and the secrets that bind them together seems to hover, tantalisingly, just outside the camera’s view."
