Eiji Uchida, director of the Netflix series The Naked Director, takes us on a feature-length journey back into the dark underbelly of the Japanese film industry of the 80s in Shrieking in the Rain.
Set in a film studio in the Summer of 1988, the story follows the trials and tribulations of young director Hanako (Marika Matsumoto), who is working on her debut feature film gig. Eager to get things right and desperate to make her artistic vision a reality, Hanako is finding her job increasingly difficult as she approaches the shooting of the film's climactic - and erotically charged - love scene.
Faced with a subpar script, a cast made up of divas and with a male-dominated film crew on her back, can she make her masterpiece happen?
