Brimming with delightfully absurdist sequences, The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie depicts a group of friends – the Thévenots, the Sénéchals, Madame Thévenot’s younger sister Florence and Latin American ambassador Don Rafael Acosta – as they make repeated attempts to dine together, their attempts to eat continually thwarted by vaudevillian events both actual and imagined, including a ghostly apparition. While bristling and politely expressing their outrage, this upper-middle-class circle never waver in their attempts to pursue all that they desire...
