Three years after The Gospel According to Matthew, Pier Paolo Pasolini continued his series of classical adaptations with his first colour feature, shot against the stark Moroccan desert.

Blending three eras, this savage, highly personal and Freudian take on Sophocles’ ancient Greek tragedy, Oedipus Rex, was the last film seen by Pasolini before his murder on a beach in Ostia.
