Last Movies
Please note : this season finished in March 2024
Last Movies remaps the first century of cinema according to the final films watched by a selection of its cultural icons, offering the opportunity to ‘see what those who see no more last saw’. We'll be screening a series of these titles on Sundays throughout March from a programme conceived and curated by Stanley Schtinter, coinciding with the publication of his book of the same name, published by Bristol-based Tenement Press.
Described by Laura Mulvey as ‘very strange, and deeply thought-provoking’ and Alan Moore as ‘a remarkable achievement,’ Schtinter’s project embraces the role of chance and fate in shaping an alternative navigation of film history. From the weighty significance of Kurt Cobain’s last theatre trip to the conspiracy-rich reverberations of JFK’s favourite Bond flick, this season revisits five key ‘Last Movies’, contextualising them within the lives of those who watched them.
"Here is the endgame of endgames. A commendably perverse demonstration of how it is possible for something to be assimilated, by way of rumour and manipulated history, without being experienced." Iain Sinclair
This season is presented in partnership with Tenement Press.
Stanley Schtinter's Last Movies will be available to purchase from Box office throughout March.
