Join Watershed's Environment Group for an evening of short films that celebrate community, climate action and storytelling to inspire change.
We have chosen these films as they showcase the power of community and nature, while inciting hope for positive climate action. We will be screening the following films:
Capsule (8 mins, dir. Euella Jackson)
Inspired by a conversation he has with his ill grandmother, 8-year-old Jay embarks on his most exciting adventure yet - making a special gift for their estate.
The Man Who Mends Things (7 mins, Filmmaker Ann Farley)
The Man Who Mends Things, created during her time as Ignite Somerset Artist in Residence, draws upon Ann Farley’s own experience of the impact of climate change on the natural environment.
Our Islands (5 mins, Filmmaker Michael Eddy)
Based on St. Agnesin the Isles of Scilly, over a full flower moon period in October, this film is an attempt to frame some of writer Jamie Lock's words and memories of their childhood on the islands.
Wild Summon (14 mins, dir. Saul Freed and Karni Arieli)
A 'human' female salmon is laying on the river shore, exhausted. Her eggs have been released and are floating on the riverbank: they are almost ready to hatch. One of the newborn salmons, a female, commences her perilous journey down the river and in the open sea.
Dancing Bees (2 mins, dir. Gwilym Evans)
Cornish beekeeper Jo Widdicombe has been keeping bees for 50 years. Through a chance experience, Jo discovered the thought-extinct European Dark Honeybee (Apis mellifera mellifera) and re-cultivated it back into its native Cornwall.
Nature Connection (13 mins, dir. Mark Vaughan)
Manu Maunganidze leads a group of 16 teenagers from inner-city Bristol on a journey into the Welsh mountains. Aware that the most challenging experiences are often those that we learn most from, a hectic schedule of intimidating activities is organised.
Followed by a Q&A with the filmmakers, which will feature BSL interpretation.
