Set against the backdrop of The Sydney Convicts gay rugby team, this touching and engaging documentary examines notions of masculinity and sexuality; brotherhood and acceptance, whilst tackling head on the issue of homophobia in sport.
For the Sydney Convicts, rugby is not just a sport – it's a lifestyle. We all recognise that sport unites but in a thick haze of testosterone and adrenaline, this beautiful portrait of three outsiders - men finding themselves adrift in Australia and coming to rely on the community and brotherly camaraderie that playing rugby provides - shows sportsmanship and unity in a whole new light. As the team members vie for a place in the gay rugby world cup, this muddy, sweaty and visually arresting documentary captures the inner thoughts and emotions of some of the toughest men and what it means to be able to compete and truly be who they are. Amazingly honest, this is an affecting, good-humored examination of sport, companionship and acceptance. Game on.
