One of the most popular animated films of all time and one of the most powerful meditations on childhood bereavement in any family film, Don Bluth’s 1988 animated classic remains as moving and unmissable as ever.
When Littlefoot (Gabriel Damon), a young bouncing Brontosaurus, is orphaned after his mother (Helen Shaver) perishes while protecting him from a vicious carnivore, with her last breath, she tells him how to get to the legendary Great Valley, where he will be reunited with others Dinosaurs of his kind. Guided by her voice, Littlefoot’s journey towards the promised land sees him join forces with other lonely young friends - the stuck-up Cera (a Triceratops), the talkative, friendly Ducky (a Parasaurolophus), eating machine Spike (a stegosaurus) and Petri (a Pteranodon) who is scared of flying - as the crew must pick their way through a plotted minefield of volcanoes and carnivores.
And incredible adventure that's brimming with wonder, danger, friendship, courage and laughter, this iconic family film is full of charm, big on excitement and still capable of flooring both adults and children alike in terms of sheer emotion.
