NYC On Film
Please note : this season finished in April 2024
Is there another city which has been so defined by cinematic imagination? Whether it’s the rawness of the Bronx, the romanticism of the Upper East Side, the corruption on the waterfront or the simple act of hailing a cab, everyone has an image of New York defined by film. This season showcases these different perspectives through the work of film directors.
This Festival of the Future City season will take us from the fog-shrouded expressionism of Joseph von Sternberg’s The Docks of New York and the dark corrupt streets of 1950s noirs through the street level visceral energy of the city’s definitive chroniclers, Martin Scorsese and Spike Lee, via the wild ride imagination of Larry Cohen, to show why New York is just so cinematically rich they had to name it twice!
