Sound & VisionSound
Every once in a while, a group comes along and dazzles you with something recognisable, but completely unlike anything else you’ve ever heard. For 2005, Ringleader are that group.

Their sound has been dubbed ‘Blade Runner Rock n Roll’, a mixture of heavy drum-based production and the masterful flow of Nick Toots on the mic. It’s a sound rooted in the pair’s original love, Drum and Bass, but clearly plucking ideas and inspiration from punk rock and hip-hop along the way.

Already they’ve enjoyed success with last year’s ‘Enough is Enough’, which became Zane Lowe’s ‘single of the week’ and 'hottest tune in the world right now' on Radio 1, and got plenty of airplay around the country (with XFM and regional stations). ‘1000 tears’, remixed by the EZ Rollers, featured as the standout track on the ‘Lickable Beats 2’ compilation album, and next up is the release of ‘Rise n Shine’, scheduled for this summer, which will surely put the group where they belong, fully in the public eye. In the meantime, the lads are busy putting on shows around the country, building a following from the ground up, as well as somehow squeezing in time to put on a Monday evening radio show on www.grandtheftaudio.co.uk, where Mark Day delves into the crates presenting his unique style of eclectic drum and bass.

After nearly a decade in development, Ringleader are now living up to their name, with a fresh sound that I’d like to call ‘Punk-hop’, but won’t. You heard it here first.
