1. Media Sandbox Project Update
Alex Stanhope, Lead Advisor at the Technology Strategy Board shares his opinons with Media Sandbox participants.
Our seven Media Sandbox commissions are now well under way. Having begun work under two project strands, B-Open and Pervasive Experiences, the projects are refining their unique responses to the brief.
At Overlay Media, the Hills are Evil team have been busy getting to grips with different definitions of accessibility, whilst Delib are finally about to get the data they need to make good progress with I heart my city.
Blossom Bristol is taking shape as Mobile Pie make positive decisions on data and ethics following the Technical Challenges workshop; and nu desine compare closed-source and open-source approaches to releasing The AlphaSphere.
Moksha began research tests with scent tunnels and pebbles for Sculpting with Scent; whilst Remode considered the best way to collect relevant and useful research data for Biofeedback in Gaming.
Mutant Labs jumped some major technical hurdles with Voice Controlled Games this month and hope to test a mini-game at Watershed in December.
We’ll need your help over the next couple of months to try out and offer your opinions on project prototypes, so please keep an eye out for ways to get involved. And remember, you can follow project progress by checking the Project Journals regularly. You can also read full Project Overviews here: http://www.mediasandbox.co.uk/2010-commissions/
2. Upcoming events
We’re pleased to invite you to our final open Work in Progress event as part of Media Sandbox 2010:
Design Dimensions | 2-5pm | Wed 17 Nov | Pervasive Media Studio (map) | Booking Required
This is the third and final event in our Work in Progress series. Delivered in collaboration with UWE’s Digital Culture’s Research Centre this meeting will take the form of a workshop, exploring a set of design dimensions (such as genre, place, equipment, depth and affect) that can be used to develop pervasive and digital projects. The session will challenge participants to consider their work in these terms and offer the chance to discuss how we successfully create meaningful, immersive experiences.
We'd be thrilled if you can join the conversation, so come along and share thoughts, questions, observations and reflections.
To reserve a place, please email: victoria@watershed.co.uk
Participants discuss The AlphaSphere with Calvium's Tom Melamed and Sam Machin from Orange in October's Technical Challenges, Work in Progress meeting.
