HMC Interactive and Aardman are working together to generate ideas to create ‘non-screen’ based experiences. After arranging a brainstorm day, the discussions were around the media sandbox research project, the required outcomes, and our working practises, exploring what was we all felt pervasive media was and how it could be used to augment a cartoon/animated world into reality.
The project will require experimentation into pervasive media, i.e. media experienced outside its standard screen based context.
Potential Applications
We discussed ideas to assess the potential commercial applications for this form of media, including upcoming projects that Aardman felt could use such technologies. It was decided to focus the research and development towards a commercial aim, as this could provide sustainability for the technologies created under the sandbox scheme, allowing new developments to build on the technologies that we can prototype using the sandbox platform.
