The ability to touch and feel (as well as smell) the scent seems like an interesting avenue so I'm sketching a lot of shapes.
It feels like you should be able to have this experience with your eyes shut (although you actually smell more efficiently with your eyes open: true fact). If another sense is going to be used to augment the scent experience touch seems the best as it lacks the ubiquity of visual/audio stimulus and could add a physicality to the experience.
