Last weekend standup comedian Laurence Clark was spotted in his shorts hanging around Tate Modern. When questioned about it, he was loathe to disclose any detail, so we’ll just have to wait. (We’re Push Me, but not that pushy!)
When we first filmed Laurence back in April in the basement space at Soho Theatre, the material for his Unlimited commission, Inspired was still very much in his head. What we can say is this strange sighting is all part and parcel of his new show. Laurence has for a long time had a particular bone to pick with the idea that disabled people are often seen to be ‘inspirational’ for doing pretty normal things. Why is that?
No doubt Inspired, with its unique blend of short film sequences and projections will delve deeper. His first Push Me 90 second film is being audio described and captioned at the moment, ready to be launched into The Space very soon.
We’ll be finding out more about Inspired at our next Push Me filming session with Laurence on June 26th when he performs the piece at Hijinx Festival at the Millennium Centre, Cardiff.
