Pick of the Week: Festival of Puppetry
Find out what’s on the Rife Guide this week, including a puppetry carnival in Bedminster.
August Bank Holiday weekend is coming, and there are loads of extra special events happening which you should definitely get involved with.
Starting on Wednesday and lasting all week, Bristol Festival of Puppetry is on. It celebrates the art of creating puppets from all sorts of materials, and the skills involved in performing puppetry on stage and screen. There’s absolutely loads of events happening – check out their website to see everything.
Our highlights are two puppet-making workshops, both taking place at the Tobacco Factory in Bedminster. On Wednesday, Thursday and Friday afternoon, work with Puppet Place’s experts to create puppets which will be paraded up North Street in the Carnival on Saturday. If that gives you a taste for creation, on Bank Holiday Monday there’s the chance to attend a masterclass run by Green Ginger, an award winning theatre company who use all sorts of puppetry in their performances. In this workshop, you’ll make the ultimate recycled puppets using rubbish
You’ll need to book in advance to attend the workshops. The carnival on North Street starts at midday and is completely free and open to anyone. Full details can be found here, on the Rife Guide
