Pick of the Week: Big Chill At The Station
Find out whats’s on the Rife Guide this week, including a fun Friday night chill session.
Sometimes you just have one of those weeks. You coast through Monday with your eyes half-closed. On Tuesday and Wednesday you promise to do better, but even the funniest ‘hump day’ tweets can’t haul you out of the brain fog. On Thursday you wake up wishing you could go back to sleep until Friday. And when you do actually get up on Friday – Halleloo girl, you made it.
Your dream of a weekend full of sleep (or partying and adventures – whatever your vibe) is nearly here – but first, you need to work out what you’re doing with your Friday night. And unless you’re Charlotte and it’s your birthday (and you’re over 18, obviously), you should get yourself down to Big Chill at The Station.
The Station is an amazing place. It’s home to the stylish Station Kitchen, which was recently turned into Bristol’s first pop-up Peace Cafe. It is also the home of Creative Youth Network, who inspire thousands of young people every year to take part in the creative arts, whether that is designing their own BMX, learning to make videos as part of their Creative Careers courses, or participating in their annual Christmas Panto (this year it’s a modern retelling of Cinderella).
Big Chill is one of Creative Youth Network’s many weekly sessions. They’ve got something on pretty much every night of the week – either at their base in Kingswood, or at The Station. Big Chill is a really popular session: come on your own or with friends, and try out a load of activities, from cooking to filmmaking, craft and DJing. There’s a focus on creativity, but if you’re not feeling arty it’s fine. The youth workers can find you something you feel like doing – maybe a movie night or pampering session. As with every session from Creative Youth Network, it’s run by professional youth workers. You can talk to them confidentially about anything, and they’ll give you as much support as they can.
Big Chill sessions happen every Friday from 6.30pm at The Station, just around the corner from H&M in Broadmead. The sessions are free and there’s no need to book – just drop in when you need a chilled night, something fun to do or a bit of help and advice. Full details of the session can be found here, on the Rife Guide.
Are you heading to Big Chill this Friday? Or have you got other Friday night plans that we’ll be jealous of? Maybe you are Charlotte and it really is your birthday? Show us what you’re up to on Twitter or Facebook, or tag us in a photo on Instagram.
