Have you ever been eating a delicious slice of cake? Crumble perhaps? or steamed pear in fact…and thought to yourself. Hey. I can hear the music, the music that’s being released from the enzymes in my saliva as they break down the sugars and carbohydrates, whilst at the same time, you break down some moves of your own in time to your favourite music playlist…
If you think I’m talking gaga then you may not know about BBC Radio 4’s ‘Desert Island Discs’, a radio programme, hosted by Kirsty Young who invites guests to choose the eight records they would take with them to a Desert Island. So I’ve decided to recreate my own take on the idea, with Dessert Island Discs. I have interviewed my fellow Watershed co-workers to find out their favourite sweet treats and the perfect track they would listen to whilst eating them…

Kicking off with Jazz, and her simple yet effective vanilla cheesecake, the creamy uplifting nodes of vanilla correlate to the smooth classic of ‘Just The Two Of Us’ by Grover Washington Junior featuring Bill Withers.

Next up is Hannah and her salted caramel ice cream from Bristol Lido. The Lido is known for its creative cuisine and it’s quite clearly won Hannah’s vote. She said she’d opt for ‘Ice Ice Baby’ by Vanilla Ice as her assisting track, to keep her cool on her desert island…yeah baby.

Going from cold to hot. Ailsa is smoking down the sand dunes of her island, with sticky toffee pudding & vanilla ice cream, riding the melodic waves of ‘Man Down’ by Rihanna. Rumpapa-pummmm, rumpapa-pummm

As a more sophisticated diner, Nikesh has chosen a cheeseboard as his dessert to take to his island. That’s right, the finest selection of cheeses there are with grapes if there are any spare, accompanied by the finer vocal cords of the Mamas And Papas in ‘Dream A Little Dream Of Me’.

Speaking of dreams, Roseanna was getting all dreamy just thinking about the Italian pastry, cannoli. She said she’d happily eat it every day. Her tune of choice is the beautiful ‘Ennio Morricone’ by Cinema Paradiso, it sounds like this combination would be equally delicious for both sense’s.

Moving into a darker realm of pudding, Holly is plummeting into the depths of the chocolate ocean with her triple chocolate sponge cake, damn, she’s going to need flippers… with her song choice being ‘Sunny’ by Boney M, bit of a contradictory tune to have when your drowning in chocolate, but hey whatever floats your boat…a boat might be a good idea actually…
Anyway, lets come up for air with George’s lemon drizzle cake, he said the sweetness of the sponge with the sharpness of the lemon will be all he needs to sit back and relax on his island, along with banging tune of ‘Super Massive Black Hole’ by Muse.

Going from one extreme to the other, we have Jon. Jon who said he would eat his chocolate brownie in silence. Without any distraction, sealed doors and bolted windows ( I don’t think there would be any on a desert island, but, you get the picture) so no other noise can get in, other than the sound of him eating his brownie, so obviously his track choice is John Cages ‘4’33’.
As for me? I’d say nothing would please me more than to have a bowl of strawberries and banana with fresh yoghurt and honey, with some soul queen, Erykah Badu and one of my favourite tracks ‘On And On’, I think that sums up my ideal Dessert Island Disc.
