Hello! Rife Magazine ceased publishing new work in July 2022.

We've kept the magazine online as an archive and hope you'll still continue to enjoy all of its contributions from the last 8 years.

Pick Of The Week: Reading Hack Project And Muse Your Imagination

The-Reading-Hack-POTW

This week, Rife Guide brings you not only the best thing going on in the city, but the best opportunity to get involved in too.

Do you consider yourself a bit of book worm? Love curling up and getting stuck into a brilliant crime thriller, romance or something that’s going to make you laugh out loud for days?

The Reading Agency are offering up to £750 for you to share your enthusiasm of books and come up with a project that will get young people reading.  The Reading Hack Call for Ideas is open! They’re looking for six groups of people aged 13-24 from all around the UK, to come up with a project or idea that will encourage others to read more.

This can be anything- an event, app, a short film, an anthology or something else entirely. As long as it’s exciting and fun and will appeal to those who don’t find reading enjoyable, or don’t see its value.

The deadline for ideas is Monday 20th February 2017. A panel of young people will then review all the applications and choose five groups to receive up to £750 to make their idea reality. These groups will then have until Monday 31st July 2017 to complete or carry out their idea.

RWA-POTW

Moving on to things you get out and about and doing in Bristol, Muse Your Imagination is a dynamic art exhibition displaying at RWA Bristol over the next few weeks.

Produced by a group of young, local artists aged 11-19, the collective are all involved in Creative Youth Network’s Urban Art’s Course. CYN are based at The Station in the centre of Bristol, and offer a range of activities, courses and services for young people aged 11 – 25 at their centre’s across Bristol.

The exhibition has opened a fascinating dialogue between the young artists and the Grade 2 listed building, the home where their work is on display.  The work has been created in response to the building and has produced work from silent films and photographs, to textile designs and music/sound recordings.

Bristol-based artist and designer Luke Egan will also collaborate with the students to design both a large inflatable sculpture and a series of films and slide images to be displayed on the front of the building.

The exhibition opens 31st January and is on till 14th March. The display is completely free and is open Tuesday-Saturday 10am- 6pm and Sunday 11pm-5pm.
