We’re resetting the way we do our usual annual list of exceptional people – here’s why
Why 30 under 30? What happened to 24 under 24?
Since 2014, we at Rife have celebrated the achievements of people under the age of 24 in Bristol with an annual list of 24 exceptional talents. Check out last year’s edition, which gave a well-deserved shoutout to the amazing work of 24 incredible Bristolians.
This year we wanted to reset our intentions for this list. We’ve had a reset ourselves at Rife recently too – we’re now part of Creative Workforce for the Future, a programme that connects and nurtures emerging creatives from groups currently underrepresented in the creative sectors to opportunities in the creative industries. As part of this programme, we’ve created paid placements for 18-30-year-old emerging creatives in creative companies across the West of England.
Through being a part of Creative Workforce for the Future, we’ve come to better understand how institutional discrimination and systemic oppression slows and obstructs career development for young people, particularly those from underrepresented groups. So, this year, we’re actively platforming those up to the age of 30, to make sure our list reflects this pace.
In recognition of this, we are extending our 24 under 24 into our 30 under 30. Not only that, we are extending the geographical area we want to represent from Bristol only, to the rest of the West of England too. Rife’s impact is stretching further than ever, and we want to reflect that.
Ok, so it’s people under 30 from the West of England… how do I nominate someone?
To nominate an amazing person, pop an email to 30under30@rifemagazine.co.uk with the following:
- Their name
- Their age
- The area they live in
- Why you think they should be on this list
- Any links you have to their work
The deadline to nominate is 1st December, and the list will be published in January 2021. We can’t wait to read your entries!
