The 10 top films of the year as voted for by members of the Film Hub South West

Happening between Monday, 15th November to Sunday, 21st November 2021, the festival offers an entertaining, distinct programme of films – from international award winners to local shorts – Q&As, masterclasses, and industry events.

Feast yourself on films from morning till night for a whole week, with must-see premieres and talks, plus highlights from the last 30 years, all at amazingly affordable prices.

"The first professional trip out of Bristol since March last year was to London to catch up on films. I have been eager to re-engage with festivals; so decided London Film Festival would be my first tentative re-emerging steps."

Films, stories and music from more than a dozen countries and the premiere of its own first self-made film will be on offer when Afrika Eye - the South West’s biggest festival of African cinema and culture – returns to venues across Bristol and beyond from November 8th to 16th.

Following BFI NETWORK's Autumn 2020 call for applications for Short Film and Early Development funding, we are pleased to introduce the selected projects from the South West - and the teams behind them.

We are thrilled to announce that BFI NETWORK Film Funding has reopened for applications for filmmakers based in the South West of England! BFI NETWORK supports, develops, and champions new filmmakers looking to kick-start their career.

FLY! runs from the 5th until the 21st of March, connecting filmmakers, artists, academics, and audiences across the South West with black women filmmakers and their histories from Britain and around the globe.

The team behind Cheltenham International Film Festival has set up virtual cinema YourScreen since the festival suspended in-person activity. We talk to them about building a place for film clubs, societies, communities and independent cinemas into their online offering.

Many UK filmmakers have been drawing up plans and applications over the last few weeks for the enticing Netflix Documentary Talent Fund. The funding offers documentary proposals a budget of up to £40K to make a short film, twelve minutes or less, that tells a story about Britain.
