BFI NETWORK South West and Untamed Stories present this panel discussion on resetting practices within the TV & Film industry to better include those with disabilities and establish a new, more inclusive, normal. We have invited D/deaf and Disabled filmmakers to speak about the impact COVID-19 has had on the community and their vision for the future.
It has been noted by D/deaf and Disabled filmmakers that many of the negative consequences of the pandemic, for able bodied film pros, were in line with everyday issues experienced by their D/deaf and Disabled peers. This led to the aim of the BFI’s Press Reset campaign, to inspire gatekeepers and those in positions of authority across film and TV. To challenge them to take advantage of the opportunity to reset practices to become more inclusive.
We will be joined by to Bristol based writer/director Stephanie Castelete-Tyrrell, who has recently released her feature length documentary Living in Fear, which was filmed during lockdown. We will also be joined by Bristol based filmmaker and artist David Ellington, who has diverse and successful career in television, film and theatre. As well as Zosia Feher a filmmaker from the North East who for the past eight years has been working and is on the Board of Directors with multi award-winning Beacon Films.
The panel will be hosted by Gloucestershire based producer, writer and director Lindsey Dryden, whose production company Little By Little Films works with a representational model and focuses on storytelling led by LGBTQ+, women’s and D/deaf and disabled voices and people with unconventional experiences of the body, prioritising equity and inclusivity in their productions and practices.
This workshop will be delivered via Zoom with live Closed Captions (CC) and BSL interpretation.
