Join us on Sunday 8th Sep to enjoy some eclectic shorts and find out more about the filmmaking support on offer in the south west region via the BFI NETWORK South West team, who are based at Watershed in Bristol. We’ll be joined by a Talent Executive to explain what they do, how you can benefit, and why it’s important to support regional creatives, then after the screening they’ll host a Q&A with a writer-director that they’ve funded. Expect some folk-horror animation, a 70s-set psychological drama starring Jacob Anderson (Game of Thrones), and some heartfelt tales about friendship and coming-of-age.
The short films included in this presentation will be as follows
Spines: When book-loving Thomas meets sporty Agnes, he learns how to use his storytelling to bridge the gap between them, show empathy and forge a new friendship.
Mermaids: Former childhood best friends Celeste and Margo haven’t seen each other for eight years – the same time it’s taken for them to both screw up their lives.
Beltane: A camping trip becomes a nightmare for a troubled couple, who kindle the ire of Unseelie Fae. Lured deeper into the woods, the careless Josh is separated from Sarah and given a stark choice: become the Fae Queen’s consort or perish alone.
Slow Burn: After an accident, a 1970s firefighter must extinguish terrifying trauma as he risks everything to reignite his career.
Rapture: A coming-of-age comedy about 16-year-old girl at Catholic Confirmation Camp who is struggling to accept her sexuality when a visit from a 16th-century saint teaches her to care less what others think.
Come and find out more about how the BFI can support you if you are thinking about making your own short film or already have one in production. There will be plenty of time for meeting and chatting as well
Cafe/Bar will be open from 3pm serving our usual Crankhouse coffee, specialty teas, and homemade cakes. Cocktails, fine wines and beers will also be available before and after the screenings
