Beyond Boundaries 360 is a FREE collaborative development programme for South West based individuals and small organisations who are interested in cultural film curation, event production and audience development. 

What is Beyond Boundaries 360? 

Beyond Boundaries 360 is the perfect starting place if you’re just starting out in the industry and looking to build up your industry networks as well as get support to access funding to put on your own film event(s). 

Over a five-month period (Oct 2024 – March 2025), participants will work collaboratively in a series of interactive sessions to develop film events from idea to screen, utilising knowledge gathered over the sessions, in tandem with their own experience. You can expect practice-based insights from industry experts (such as cinema programmers, festival curators, marketing experts), Beyond Boundaries alumni and peer participants as well as space to develop your own curatorial voice and ideas. 

The programme sessions will be a mix of in-person workshops at Watershed in Bristol and via Zoom online.  

The Film Hub Community Manager Neil Ramjee, and the wider team, are on hand to offer 1-2-1 support  as well as make introductions to other organisations in response to individual needs or project development. Participants can also access bursaries to support travel, accommodation, enrolment fees or accreditation costs to enable your attendance at the workshop and relevant conferences, events and film festivals (up to £100 per participant). 

Ideas developed through Beyond Boundaries will have the chance to be pitched to cinemas and partner organisations in the South West region and be put forward for consideration for National Lottery funding from Film Hub South West and BFI, to put on your events.  

Who can apply? 

Beyond Boundaries 360 is open to individuals based in the South West region that are committed to bringing their film event ideas to audiences on the big screen and who are excited to collaborate with others .  

We welcome those who are at the early stage of their career in film exhibition, and/or who wish to move into cultural film curation from another sector. We are also open to applications from individuals that lead or are part of a small company/organisation. 

Please ensure that you have the time to take part in this programme (see draft schedule below). To gain the full benefit of Beyond Boundaries 360, we strongly encourage applicants to attend the majority of the workshops.   

We are particularly encouraging applications from those from a background that is *underrepresented in the film/screen industries

_{(*for example, you are from a community that experiences racism, you did not go to university, you had free school meals as a child, if you identify as LGBTQIA+, you are a disabled person (as defined by the Equality Act 2010)).}

Selection criteria

This opportunity is for people based in the South West region: Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Somerset, Wiltshire, Gloucestershire, West of England, Hampshire, Isle of Wight and Isles of Scilly. 

Participants will be selected based on the following criteria: 

• demonstrating a high level of interest in film and cinema 
• a clear commitment to inclusion 
• a motivation to develop yourself and your work
• Be available to travel to Watershed, Bristol, on Sat 12th October 2024 between 2-6pm

In our introduction session, participants will be invited to Watershed in Bristol to have the opportunity to get to know each other and co-design the collaborative space that will be this edition of Beyond Boundaries.

The space will be facilitated by Film Hub Community Manager Neil Ramjee who has worked in both the community and commercial film scene for the last 10 years, whilst moonlighting as a culture and film critic with input from Jazlyn Pinckney who has extensive experience in engagement, participation and in coaching the creative sector to hold intersectionality at the centre of design.

This will also be an opportunity to review the proposed programme and share what you might be missing, as there will be scope for input shaping elements of the programme as we progress. 

Between each session, there will be opportunities for participants to come together to discuss ideas, raise questions, and share knowledge either with the support of the Film Hub team or independently. We strongly encourage collaborative working and will be able to help make spaces (online or in-person) available to make this happen.
