Whether you’re a newcomer with a great idea or a seasoned short filmmaker, the South West is full of opportunities to platform your story, meet other filmmakers and access the international short film scene. So, what are you waiting for? Get involved with these three great competitions in Bristol, Exeter and Cornwall.
Can you do it in 90 seconds? Filmmakers from across the world are invited to take part in the Depict challenge and get creative in just a minute and a half to be in with a chance of winning up to £2,500 prize money, industry exposure and a screening at the BAFTA qualifying Encounters Short Film & Animation Festival.

Cornwall Film Festival focuses on talent discover and is a key networking event for emerging filmmakers and eminent media personalities. The festival attracts passionate film audiences with an international film programme, masterclasses, speakers, director Q&As as well as the best home grown talent.
Trophies and awards are up for grabs for the two categories of Best Short Film and Best Student Film. The winners of both will be screened as part of the Official Selection at The Poly, Falmouth alongside a special event highlighting the best of the South West.

For the past sixteen years, Two Short Nights Film Festival has been celebrating and promoting short films and the people who make them. The festival is proud to nurture new and emerging talent through selected screenings, workshops and their famous 48 Hour Film Challenge.
Submissions are invited in every genre including drama, animation, documentary, artists moving image, experimental film and music videos. This year’s festival will feature award-winning pieces by internationally renowned artists alongside new work from local creatives, plus support from Exeter Phoenix’s Creative Hub, talks, live film pitches and the premiere of 6 films and moving image works commissioned by Exeter Phoenix during 2018.
