Every December, Film Hub South West polls exhibitors in the region on the films which stood out to them in year just gone. The list below features the top 20 feature UK cinema releases that our members loved this year.

Film fans across the South West are being offered an early chance to see the new feature by Cornwall’s BAFTA-winning filmmaker Mark Jenkin and pick up some insights into his distinctive style, Cornish culture and its language at the same time.

This new BFI NETWORK career development scheme is designed for south west-based producing and directing talent. Shorts2Features will run from late Sep to Mar 2023, and is now open for applications.

Join some of the most inspiring voices in rep and archive film exhibition and distribution to explore alternative ways of connecting older films with a new wave of cinema goers and to get inspired to broaden repertory cinema beyond the comfort of the mainstream.

BFI NETWORK-backed short film The Thing That Ate the Birds has been selected for streaming by ALTER, an ever-expanding platform for the most daring horror across the world – and a home, community, and launching pad for filmmakers.

We are pleased to share news that Nadia Attia has joined the Film Hub South West team as a BFI NETWORK Talent Executive. Nadia has taken up the post following Alice Cabañas’ appointment as Head of BFI NETWORK.

The new scheme is designed to identify and support new television drama writers in the west and south west of England.

For an exciting 10th edition, Making Waves Film Festival 2022 arrives at No 6 Cinema, Portsmouth with a handpicked selection of short film screenings, BFI NETWORK supported events, filmmaking workshops, and a couple of features if all that wasn't enough!

We are excited to announce that BFI NETWORK Film Funding has reopened for applications from filmmakers and animators based in the South West of England.
