A Couple Of Coppolas
Please note : this season finished in July 2023
In anticipation of the opening night film of Cinema Rediscovered with the UK premiere of a new 4K restoration of cult classic The Virgin Suicides, we’re spending our Sundays throughout July exploring major works from two members of one of America’s most famous filmmaking families: the Coppolas.
We’ll be screening a couple of titles from the legendary director Francis Ford Coppola as well as from perhaps the most famous ‘nepo-baby’ filmmaker of them all Sofia Coppola – an iconic and visionary director in her own right. Throughout the season we'll revisit classics including Sofia’s provocative and playful period piece Marie Antoinette, starring frequent collaborator Kirsten Dunst in the titular role; and Coppola Snr’s influential and nuanced portrait of alienation and surveillance The Conversation.
