"The Wiz is one of my all time favourite films because for me it is the perfect Afro Futuristic version of a classic story. It is at times a little dark, other times ’trippy’, and remains entertaining throughout. With its stellar line up of performers and entertainment icons, use of bright colours and creativity, I think it's a great family addition to the season.”

Ease on down, ease on down the road…The grooviest adaptation of The Wizard of Oz you’ll ever see!

We invite all the family to ease on down the yellow brick road with this special screening of The Wiz, the beloved Motown musical version of Dorothy's journey to the wonderful world of Oz. Diana Ross stars as Dorothy, a Harlem schoolteacher who is swept away to Oz in a magical snowstorm. She is told about the Wiz (Richard Pryor), a wizard who can help her get back home, and as she goes in search of him she's joined by the Scarecrow (Michael Jackson), the Tin Man (Nipsey Russell) and the Cowardly Lion (Ted Ross). With a brilliantly funky soundtrack from Quincy Jones, you'll be clicking your heels all the way to our disco.

After the film, head to a free all-singing all-dancing get together for Bristol kids and their families inspired by the film’s soundtrack. Local turntablists and lovers of disco, soul, funk and Motown, the Funk-Fatales, will be spinning classic vinyl tunes to coax you and your little ones onto the dance floor. Meanwhile, why not transform yourselves into disco royalty by making your very own crown at the craft table, inspired by the the inventive costumes, set design and decorations featured in The Wiz.
