Hello! Rife Magazine ceased publishing new work in July 2022.

We've kept the magazine online as an archive and hope you'll still continue to enjoy all of its contributions from the last 8 years.

Pick Of The Week: ‘The Christmas Turkey’

cyn-xmas

Discover what’s happening on the Rife Guide this week, including Creative Youth Network’s ‘The Christmas Turkey’, a heartwarming performance of true stories.

This festive season, Creative Youth Network are inviting you to a Christmas dinner and party to remember. This time for all the right reasons. ‘The Christmas Turkey’ is CYN’s brand new festive performance, sharing real life stories and social commentary on what Christmas is really like for communities across Bristol. A drama performance with a twist, this humorous and heart-felt performance is played out around the dining room table.

Look forward to free mouth watering food and hot drinks, presents under the Christmas tree and the spirit of charitable giving running high. Join CYN to share the unique experience of a show that will brighten even the darkest of winter nights.

The production is based on true stories of young people. Through workshops, CYN have collated these to bring you a real life performance, touching and gripping, with all that the jolly festive season entails: loneliness for those who don’t have perfect families, the worst time of the year for mental health issues and those who can’t indulge in endless gifts.

CYN are a charity that builds relationships with young people from all backgrounds, helping them reach their own potential and live fulfilling lives. Their productions are youth led, with young people 16 – 25 being involved in every aspect of the show, from the cast to the tech, directing and producing.

The production runs from Wednesday 7th Dec to Saturday 10th Dec and starts at 7pm every night. On Saturday there is a Matinee Show at 2pm. CYN want the show to be experienced by an audience that is from all backgrounds. No one should miss the opportunity to enjoy culture (in this case theatre) because they can’t afford it. That’s why you have an option of which ticket you want to buy for this performance.

If you can afford to give to charity at this time of year, you can choose between a ‘Feeling generous’ ticket (£15) and a ‘Standard ticket’ (£10). However, if you want to come along and enjoy a free meal and a great show on Creative Youth Network, you can get a £0.50 ticket. You can also get in touch with them at info@creativeyouthnetwork.org.uk or 0117 204 7338 for group bookings.

Emily Bull, Creative Producer for The Christmas Turkey, says:

Working with young people from all backgrounds, we know not everyone can afford to enjoy a theatre show. Especially at this time of year, we want to give people the opportunity to come together, without the usual pressure of the holidays. So we’re putting on dinner for you and the tickets are pay what you can.

We promise a heart warming performance that will pull at your heart strings. We welcome everyone to join in our Christmas day! If you don’t have anywhere to go, friends or family, you’re welcome to spend the day with us. And if you can afford to support those in need, the donation you make towards your ticket price will go to some of the most disadvantaged young people in Bristol to get support and advice.

Are you going to see ‘The Christmas Turkey?’ Or are you too busy having other festive fun in the city? We want to know. Tell us what you’re doing on Twitter or Facebook, or tag us in a photo on Instagram.
