Pick of the Week: Makers Market
Find out what’s on Rife Guide this week, including Makers Market, where 12 local artists sell their work in the run up to Christmas.
The face paint and fancy dress we donned for Halloween is now firmly tucked away at the back of the wardrobe, and the bonfire smoke from Guy Fawkes has just about washed out of our jeans. With the passing of the two biggest autumnal events it can only mean one thing — Christmas is around the corner. Get organised and get your Christmas pressie list started now, and save yourself all that stress of crazy Christmas Eve shopping (we’ve all been there). Forgot M&S and John Lewis, put your pounds and pennies towards gifts that are worth remembering, and head over to PAPER Arts‘ Makers Market.
Held every Wednesday and Saturday 11am – 4pm, the Makers Market is the place to buy your gifts with a handmade touch and a local twist. A diverse collection of over twelve local independent artists will be creating, working and selling their art in Co-Lab, Bristol. Opening up their studio spaces in the run up to Christmas, Co-Lab are giving you not just the opportunity to buy your handmade gifts, but a chance to chat to the artists who made them and find out more about their practice.
Located right in the centre of Broadmead, the artist’s shop and workspace is a window into Bristol’s thriving independent scene. Working with over 100 local artists, designers and companies, Co-Lab are a unique shop selling everything from clothing to vinyls. You might have heard of their brilliant neighbour PAPER Arts, who help people get started and make a career in the creative industries. PAPER Arts offer work experience, mentoring, enterprise courses and when you pay them a visit you can explore their bookshop, exhibition space and cafe, too.
You will find all sorts of treats and treasures at Makers Market, such as paintings, prints, handmade jewellery, accessories, clothing, cushions, mugs, throws, cards and wrapping paper plus an abundance of other goodies. The market is on every Wednesday and Saturday in the run up to Christmas, from 11am to 4pm upstairs at Co-Lab.
